On The Journey...

February 8, 2008

Don’t forget! Time changes this weekend – set your clocks one hour forward!

These past few Sundays we have been talking about the mission of Journey 2L2 and what makes us different.  We have been learning about the love of God throughout the Bible and how we can practically follow the principles God set before us in our own lives.  Many times God opens the doors for us to talk to people about Journey 2L2 and Denise Gutierrez, our Community Outreach Director had another great opportunity that I wanted to share with you…

A few weekends ago I went to Georgia to meet up with my best friend who is in the states from England. Melinda coordinated for about 6 of us to come in from different parts of the US to meet at a friend’s cabin in Jasper, GA. I have met all these people before but have not kept in touch with them. Shortly after I arrive Melinda told me that Cliff’s friend Mario is interviewing for Oprah. I almost died. I told Cliff to sit down a let me tell him a little story. I talked to him about meeting Peter Walsh (TLC’s Clean Sweep Host) and how Oprah had come up 3 times that day and I run into Peter and he says he’s going to do the Oprah show. (Go to http://www.journey2l2.org/On%20The%20Journey...070831.htm to read this story.)

I told him about the 3 Journey Homes we did and how Peter had asked me what I wanted from Oprah. My response was that people in every community can help others with home makeovers and as little as $500. For $500 you can change someone’s life! Cliff asked me many questions and thought this was great. Cliff works for CNN and with some other friend’s has pitched show ideas to networks so he can see how this story would play out on TV. The next morning I hear him talking with Mario and telling Mario the whole story. Mario loves it too! And while I was screaming inside and wanting to jump up and down like a little kid, just in amazement at how God keeps making connections for Journey, I remained calmed and cool.

I said to Cliff, God has a plan for this church and I am just trying to keep up. I met a guy on the cruise Tony and I went on in January that has become a great resource as well. This weekend I made a great connection because even if it is not Oprah, these guys have a lot of TV connections. I have learned one of the most important things we can do is talk about Journey and the projects because people are interested and they have connections we might never realize.

One of the guys at the cabin this weekend talked to me about some cool things happening in their town with the church and told me to call him if we plan a mission trip – he wants to come. Journey 2L2 is not only reaching NJ, we are reaching across the country. We all love to talk and it is a powerful tool, use it!

This is Bob again… I am so grateful for the love and passion that comes not just from Denise and the others on staff at Journey 2L2, but from each one of you.  It is a great privilege to be on this journey with you!

This Sunday we will look at what it means when a person believes the Bible is the inspired Word of God and what impact that can have on ones life.  Don’t forget to change your clock and I’ll see you there!

Bob
