On The Journey...

July 6, 2007

I hope you took some time this week and went to see the new movie Evan Almighty.  We made it a “Family Night Out” and my wife Linda, my daughter Carith, and my mother all went together.  If you haven’t seen it yet, I would really encourage you to go with your family or with a friend, neighbor, or co-worker.

The theme of the movie can lead you to all kinds of God-centered conversations.  If you have ever wondered what it might have been like for Noah to build the ark, then this is a must see film.  This film will give you a good visual picture of the magnitude of the ark, and a good biblical picture of what it might have looked like with two of every animal boarding the ark side-by-side. Yes, you could wait to see it on DVD, but there is no replacement for that big screen impact, and this is one of those films that paints the big screen with grand images.

As I left the theater a thought kept running through my mind. This is a major motion picture, made in Hollywood, costing millions of dollars, and yet the message of the film is the same message Christ tried to convey over 2000 years ago. It is the same message we at Journey 2L2 are trying to teach – If you want to change the world, do it through Acts of Random Kindness (ARK).

As I walked through the exit doors and out to my car, I felt confirmation that Journey 2L2 is at the right place, at the right time, with the right message. Ten years ago, or even five years ago, this movie and its powerful theme would not have had the reception it is having today. I could hear God whisper to me, “Don’t lose sight of what I have called you to do. Don’t grow weary. Don’t lose focus because Journey 2L2 is right on the cutting edge of that I am doing and where I want you to be.”

This Sunday, I will make some other comments and personal applications that cross-reference themselves to the events from Evan Almighty, so your homework is to see the film before worship service at 10:00 am.

Also, the Eden Run is coming up on July 22nd.  This is one of those “all hands on deck” projects as we will not be meeting together at South Brunswick High School that day, rather we all will be serving together by running or volunteering at the run.  If you haven’t already, email denise@Journey2L2.org and let her know where you will be serving and who you will be bringing with you.

See you then.

Bob
